Mother Nature Still Makes the Rules I saw this observation today and had to laugh. After all the predictions, models, arguments, regulations, taxes and political debate surrounding climate and weather, Mother Nature continues to remind us of something pretty basic: We don't control the weather. In 2025, there were zero U.S. hurricane landfalls . And so far in 2026, we're still sitting at zero . Does that prove climate change isn't real? No. Does it prove hurricanes have disappeared? Obviously not. A quiet stretch can simply be a quiet stretch, and hurricane activity varies enormously from year to year. But that's also part of my point. We sometimes talk as though every hurricane, drought, heat wave—or lack thereof—can be neatly attributed to one policy, one politician, one emissions target or one explanation. The actual climate and weather systems are considerably more complicated than that. We can study them. We can model them. We can prepare for them. We can debate ...

The Association Spotlight by Panda

Feeling honored... Can be a lil tough to read sometimes.. so ... The Association Spotlight — Rick “Rickkcir” Lossner CVMA® TX 23-11 — Audie Murphy Chapter Twenty years in the United States Air Force gave Rickkcir a career that covered a little bit of everything. He started in Security Police in the missile field before moving into Electronic Warfare and Airborne Maintenance. After two years of technical schools, he found himself working and flying on aircraft and missions that included the RC-135 Rivet Joint and Comfy Levi C-130. His final four years were spent as a Program Engineer at the plant where those aircraft were refurbished and modified with the newest reconnaissance equipment. His service also put him in the middle of some pretty significant moments. He was stationed in Panama when Operation Just Cause kicked off, and his unit was right in the mix of it. Not long after returning to the United States, Southwest Asia came calling in August 1990. Between 1990 and 1995, he wou...

Two awesome Cancun Resorts .. just happen to be Hyatt Properites!

Two Hyatt Cancun Resorts That UVC Members Shouldn't Overlook Every once in a while, I run across an article that makes me stop and take another look at resorts that may have been sitting right under my nose. This time it was an article from The Cancun Sun naming two Cancun all-inclusive resorts that consistently deliver : Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Hyatt Zilara Cancun What really caught my attention? These aren't just Hyatt-affiliated resorts. They're HYATT properties. And for those of us who are also Unlimited Vacation Club (UVC) members , there is another potentially significant advantage: We can leverage our UVC membership at these properties as well. That's a pretty big bonus. Hyatt Ziva Cancun – The Family Option First up is Hyatt Ziva Cancun . I've seen this property plenty of times over the years, but perhaps haven't given it enough consideration. The location alone is pretty spectacular. Ziva sits on a peninsula at Punta Cancun with the Caribbean surroundi...

Impressions Isla la Mujeres

Impression Isla Mujeres — Finally Checking This One Off the Bucket List This one had been on my bucket list for a few years. Over the last few decades, I’d actually been to Isla Mujeres three times — twice by ferry and once by yacht. But all three were just day trips, checking out the island, hitting a few beaches, and then heading back to the mainland. This time, we decided to do it right.  This was my Birthday trip so .... We splurged and went all-in on Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets , arguably the nicest resort in the Secrets lineup and certainly one of the premier resorts on the island. Getting Lucy onboard took a little convincing, though. Her biggest issue? She had absolutely NO desire to drag luggage onto a public ferry and haul it across to the island. Fortunately, as UVC Impression members, that wasn't going to be an issue. UVC provides executive-level private transportation to the harbor, and Impression has its own catamaran to take guests directly to the resort. Slam...

Socialism Is the Wrong Path for America

Socialism Is the Wrong Path for America Socialism is once again fashionable in America. For many Americans—particularly younger generations—the word no longer conjures images of the Soviet Union, breadlines, central planning, or government ownership of industry. Instead, socialism is increasingly associated with promises of free healthcare, free college, greater economic equality, and a government willing to guarantee more financial security. Those goals can sound appealing. But before America embraces socialism as the answer to its economic and social problems, we should ask a more important question: What does history tell us happens when societies move away from free markets, private property, and individual economic freedom and toward greater government control? The historical record provides a sobering answer. Capitalism is imperfect. It can produce inequality, economic disruption, corporate concentration, and financial crises. But socialism has repeatedly produced something...

🚨 Know Your Rights If You're Bumped from an Oversold Flight ✈️

🚨 Know Your Rights If You're Bumped from an Oversold Flight ✈️ If an airline tells you they've given your seat away because the flight is oversold , don't just accept the first offer and walk away from the gate. Instead, ask: "Am I being involuntarily denied boarding due to an oversold flight?" If the answer is yes , federal law may entitle you to cash compensation —not just a travel voucher. Here's how it generally works for domestic U.S. flights : ✅ If your replacement flight gets you to your destination 1–2 hours later than originally scheduled, the airline generally owes you: 200% of your one-way fare , up to $1,075 ✅ If your replacement flight gets you there more than 2 hours later , they generally owe you: 400% of your one-way fare , up to $2,150 💵 The compensation is typically paid as cash, a check, or another immediately available form of payment —unless you choose to accept a travel voucher instead. A few important things to know: • These rules ...

BrewBirds Mug Club

Image
🍺 FINALLY!!! Got My Number! 😂 Well... it finally happened. I'm officially in the BrewBirds Mug Club! 🍻 Last year, when they rolled this thing out for 2025, I seriously considered it. I did the math... (which, let's be honest, was a complete no-brainer.) Then my logical side kicked in... "Rick... you don't even drink that much beer anymore. You've migrated over to bourbon and other adult beverages." So... I talked myself out of it. Big mistake. HUGE. 🤦‍♂️ I've regretted that decision about every single time I've walked into BrewBirds since. Because here's the reality... Roll in after a long motorcycle ride? 🍺 Ice-cold beer. Finished mowing in 100° Texas heat? 🍺 Ice-cold beer. Met friends for lunch? 🍺 Yep. Watching a game? 🍺 Obviously. Tuesday? 🍺 Seems reasonable. You get the picture. 😂 Now, if I actually lived across the street from BrewBirds, they'd probably have to start budgeting for my account separately. ...

Curaco: On my radar for a UVC trip!

Curaçao: The Caribbean's Best-Kept Secret — And Why Hyatt's Three All-Inclusive Resorts Make It Even Better When people think about the southern Caribbean, Aruba often steals the spotlight. It's famous for its wide beaches, constant sunshine, and resort-lined coastline. But after experiencing everything Curaçao has to offer, I've come to believe it's the more interesting island. Not necessarily because the beaches are better. Not because the resorts are bigger. But because Curaçao feels authentic. It's an island where people live, work, raise families, celebrate their culture, and welcome visitors into their world rather than creating a destination built entirely around tourism. That difference changes everything. Three Incredible Hyatt All-Inclusive Resorts One of the things that makes Curaçao unique for Hyatt loyalists is that every Hyatt property on the island belongs to the Hyatt Inclusive Collection , meaning every resort is fully all-inclusive. Whether y...
