Communication ....
Such a simple concept, yet... escapes many. Too many.
If I'm headed to an event, meeting, dinner, almost anything ... and running late I send a message of sorts or make a call, to let folks know. Sometimes, no matter what, I'll shoot a quick text to the parties joining me. Do others? Well, most don't. Hell, sometimes I'm surprised by others that show up, and that's okay. But ... don't be surprised when one walks through a door or rolls up and nobody is there when one gets there if ..... they didn't 'know.'
Yesterday is a perfect example. Event has been announced. Location of the event announced. A ride to the event with a start point and a mid point have been advertised. Now, if one is going to go to this, shouldn't one mention it? Shouldn't one know the final event location if needed (ie miss the ride with others)? If the others on the ride knew this person was coming, they might wait for them if they are running late. But, no communication, with failure following on. All it took was one message prior. One. Crazy part is...... person didn't even know the event location. Get the picture?
Reminds me of a ride I led back in '18. Start point was at a gas station around I30 and FM1903. Five minutes before the advertised KSU, we all there that had announced they were going. "Why Wait?" I reasoned, so we headed out. Supposedly one couple rolled up before the advertised KSU time and we were gone (they argued, in this five minute window). Who was wrong? I reasoned .... they were. However, my lesson learned moving forward was ... if you advertised it, wait. Why? Some people ... just can't communicate, so we'll wait to see if there are any surprises.
Such a simple concept. I'm referencing rides. But I see this crap weekly. Never ceases to boggle my mind. My takeaway? One more indicator of why some folks are successful in this world, and other's aren't. My formula is almost always spot on.... one more indicator of success in this world.
