"Cost of Freedom"

Image
Damned.. this shit is getting expensive!  Email from Costco popped in my inbox a few weeks ago and thought .......... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  Gun Safe on sale; lil smaller than the last one I bought... Soon as I got two on order, posted in on Facebook to share the Love.  Few folks chimed in.  Kicker is, this isn't a killer deal, but a good deal.  At 599.99 delivered to your door free, hard to pass up. So, got TWO! But, I got a better deal last time! I paid $699 sale price on that one, delivered free! It's more than DOUBLE the size of the ones I got today.  Of course, I about killed myself moving it and installing it.. but  that's another story.    Cool part about these new ones....   I can move the fuckers myself to get them into place.  Now, just wishing I'd bought one for the home down in MS.   Next time they go on sale..... going to have to snag one for there!    Still, got to admit .... the pricing is crazy on these ....  damned they have gone up up up!     Shit's expe

"Live within your Means" This is an age old saying.  One I see "Dave Ramsey" mention often.  One that for more than two decades I didn't abide by.  But somewhere around the age of 44 I woke up.  Wife and I both woke up.  Took a few years but by the time I was 49, we were on a roll. Out of debt, able to buy a few toys and start traveling.  I'm now over 60 now and enjoying the ride... but.. wasn't always that way.  I've historically loved my toys.  I remember one of my closest friends Greg always saying back in our mid twenties, " he who dies with the most toys wins! " and we lived our lives like that.  He was always a step ahead of me, with a nicer/faster bike, nicer/faster car.  Then we both started having kids, had to back off and live a 'responsible' life.  But, deep down I always wanted that again.  For most of my adult life, I've always had a motorcycle.  Had a Jeep.  Had a Sports Car.  Usually they were older and lower cost

Weekend Ride To Lawton OK

Image
Damned I miss riding like this. Little bit of distance, weekend out of town, put some miles on the bike at the location.  This one was actually a CVMA related event that I wrote about HERE . I wanted to roll up on KROME, but I didn't get the oil changed, so KRUSH got the duty.  Meant to wash it the day before, but... I might have gotten caught up in my pool time and blew it off.  Lucy had decided to stay home to watch Peanut.  So for me, it'd become more of a 'guys' weekend (though a few other's wives would make it up there).  When the smoke cleared it'd just be Frank and I rolling up that day, meeting others once we got there.  For me this was too simple.  Took me a whole fifteen minutes to pack up all my gear, load up the bike and don my vest .  That's 1 ... 5 .. minutes...  bam!  Hell, it was 0700 before I even started.  Took my time, sipped some java, lil bite to eat then...  0745 I was rolling to meet up with Frank at the QT.  We topped off and were ro

Buddy of mine reached out to me yesterday to share some news with me.  He's parked his "Emergency Funds" with this bank, mainly because of their high interest yields in today's market.  I took a look at it and .... piqued my interest!  I mean CD rates for 5 years are what... 3.5% approx?  This one with no penalties on time frames is 2.5%.....not bad.  Beats what I'm getting with my local bank!  So, this morning in the wee hours due to lack of sleep, went for it.  BUT.. there's more!  Now...   go with me on this one.  Imagine you parked 250k in the AAdvantage account for a year.  You'd have OVER 250,000 miles with AA to fly on Vaca's and emergencies with, annually.  Folks, that's a lot of miles.  Yeah yeah .. 250k, I know.  Who's got that to park in a savings account, but for a matter of discussion....  if you do the math, that's pretty good!  I mean 3% of 250k is $7500.  Do the math with AA miles...  That's 10 round trip flights at 25k

MS Trip : Post Covid

Image
View from the Front Deck Well, that trip was a twist.  Just got back from MS yesterday after being gone about 10 days or so.  Jimmy and Rozzie had tickets via Gulfport airport so were focused on making it happen.  I'd just had Covid and 'recovered', Lucy was just coming out of it and had tested positive early in the week.  CDC says 4 or 5 days post test,  you can move forward .. so we did.  First we contacted our family in MS to make sure they were aware.  They said "come on down!".  Told the Farleys and they were like "already had it!".  So, fuk' it.. we rolled.   But the problem was... Lucy still wasn't 100% .  Didn't realize that until she'd spent 8 hours in the vehicle. Once there, we were back in our MS Groove, but ...   moving slow.  I may have been over the bug, but as it'd turn out I'd drag ass for the next week. She never 100% recovered....  moving slow.  One day felt okay, few hours later, taking a nap.  Each day was a t
