Making Lemonade ...

Image
Was going to post this under the CVMA Blog ... but .. things took a turn.  The CVMA Gulfport MS chapter had their meeting yesterday and we planned to attend.  I pinged them for the location; VFW in Gulfport with the street address.  I opened up Google Maps ... type in VFW and there it is.  I remember it from the Poker run last year, have the visual ... look at the cross streets and we're on.  It's a chilly one, but sunny out.  It's in the upper 30s, but by the time we mount the bike it's up to 40deg.  No Leather, but we're warm enough and rolling down Hwy 90 with the Gulf on our right.  Fifteen minutes later we roll up and I'm thinking "you're kidding me .. no one else rode?"  There are a dozen vehicles, but none have Combat Vet stickers which is the norm.  Hmmmm.   Couple of doors open, lots of noise.  So, we're getting off, taking off the jackets ... when a guy my age comes out and I ask him which door is the front.  I'm getting a strange

MS Home : Cost to heat a Pool?

Image
Hmmmmmmmm... I've been cringing at the thought of this one.    After New Years, we cranked up the heat on the pool ....  we had it up to 95!  It was friggn' cold outside (20s and 30s?) ..   40s ... during the day ...   but that pool was steaming!   I've been wondering what that pain point is/was.  Well, part of the facts are in  Bottom line ... for upwards of a week, was about $200.00 in Natural Gas cost.  I'll be doing this one more time during the month of February with my daughter visiting, but I'm only going to max out the pool temp at 89 and the night time temps won't be as low.  But, I'll keep it heated for an entire week so that one should be the real test?   Still, could have been worse?   I didn't know if this was going to be $100 or $1000 for this current bill; $200 I can live with for the fun factor.   I've always been tempted to do this at the Greenville, TX home but it'd run off propane and THAT gets expensive.  I've heard crazy

Last two days have been perfecto'!   Yesterday myself , Chief and Shooter did about 70+ miles.  Today myself, Chief and Rocky did 130+.  Yesterday was in the 60s.... today in the lower 70s .. nothing but sunshine and two lane roads. Yesterday was a nice route down by Tawakoni Lake.  Today we headed more north around Sulphur Springs/Commerce/Leonard, staying off major by ways. Awesome burger yesterday with colds ones and Shooters home.  Today, Chicken Fried Steak with some ice cold Shiner Bocks. Let the thaw begin ...

We usually get a single snow/freeze day .. days .. week ... here in Greenville, Tx every year.   Last year's storm was a doozie.  This one, not too bad.  Last year I got caught with my pants down and head up my ass.  This year, was prepped and ready.  Good news is ... no issues this time around. View through the screened in Porch this morning .. brrr We dropped into the freezing temps a few days ago, and it shut down the DFW area and most small towns around me for the most part, but ...  no rolling blackouts.  No frozen pipes.   Just a few days of icy roads, lil snow on the ground and as I write this ....  the sun is out and ice is melting.  I'm guessing the yard will be free of any evidence by nightfall.   By Friday, we'll be in the upper 60s..  She'll dip below freezing at night, but that's a small price to pay. toasty! This year I had our small generator ready. Would have kept the fridge running and some lights.  Had about a cord of wood for the upstairs fireplac

Landscaping around the pool, fence around the filter, etc... all done. Only big thing we are waiting on here is the Sod, but that's probably a month away... then ...  almost 'complete'. Would be, but we are putting in another fireplace on the north end of the pool  Should be over the top. Got all the Polywood furniture on order....  enroute.  No doubt I'll be getting supply chain issue emails for weeks.. and weeks and weeks?
