Cozumel - AirBnB style

Image
Back in November a dozen or so of us headed to the Secrets Aura Cozumel resort to have a good time and .. SCUBA Dive !  After that trip, we starting dreaming and scheming: Cheap Dive Trip ! .  The original plan was for a half dozen of us Divers to head down , grab a cheap place. That soon escalated to a full blown 7 bedroom house with 15 folks rolling in. Bam! Seemed like this trip would never get here, then suddenly it was time!   A cold front was bearing down on us the Saturday we left, with most of us running to the heat from the cold. This was supposed to be a full blown dive trip, but in the end only 7 of 15 are diving.  Between better halves and family members joining in, we had a full blow vacation mob, with 4 days of diving in the mix.  Sadly, we lost a day of diving due to high winds, but we made up for it in alcohol abuse. Still, we got three days of 2-tank dives in, and a 1-tank night dive.  By that last dive, most of us were beat.   However, most of our time wasn't sp

The Gregory Indian 500 - Part 2

Image
Late last year, I wrote about a new development: The Gregory 500.    This will be a record attempt at the "Most Indian Motorcycles in a Parade."   I participated in the first one,  up in MN back in '16 where it was originally set. It was an idea put forth by members of the IARG up there, and a dealer took that idea up there ran with it.  After the initial record was set, they did another attempt the following year, barely besting the previous. Well, that set a lot of things in motion.  Folks from all over are suddenly interested in doing this.  In Racine last year, they gave it a shot but came up short. I discussed that : here .  Now in '19, there are going to be 3 attempts that I'm aware of.  First one is up in Michigan in the late Spring.  I know little about that one and I'm forecasting that .. it won't beat the record.   Czechoslovakia is hosting one in Europe; Indian Riders Fest . Gotta' tell you, looks cool as hell!.  I'm forecasting t

Newbies to the Brand

I think about this sometimes, because it comes up too often.  On a ride, in a conversation, on a forum , or the big one; social media.  Someone either asks an uninformed question (I was going to use the word 'stupid') or they get butt hurt over something stup..  I mean .. insignificant. The latest was yesterday . On FB on the subject of getting a large group of same brand bikes together when a buddy of mine comments " There are any better reasons to get together and ride than this. Honestly, I'd rather ride with 3 good friends, to a destination, than around the block with 500 assholes I don't know." -Doug   This is soon followed up by some bozo's  " if that is what you call us Indian Riders, I hope I never meet up with you."   So at this point, I do what I normally do ...  research.  I click on Mr Butthurt's profile and do a quick scan. First thing I see is he's a fellow Vet.  Huh.. that one surprised me.   A Vietnam Vet (respect!  .

................apparently?  Well, I assume it was directed my way.  Maybe Tamara's way.  Maybe..... YOUR WAY? bahaha A Keyboard Warrior (Don't you just endear that term? Was used the other day by the same person......) posted this because he felt bullied. Wait ..  bullied?  Damned ... grow a pair.  Almost 60 and ranting about being a bad ass.. but ..  now.. "bullied?"  I've got a word for this ..but .. but.. never mind.  I'm starting to recognize a recurring theme here.. and words... but ..  different part of the country.  Anyways...   I guess this is supposed to mean something " A few rides to the nearest bar and calls it a ride....Bahahaha"   " yeah couldn't find one that said 25 or 30k.. But, they know who they are..." I always get a kick out of shit like this when folks claim to be above it all.  God Fearing.  Lovin' Jesus.  But, in reality they MF' folks behind their backs all day long.   Pretending to a b

Whew.. pissed off a few unintentionally. Imagine, if I had tried intentionally how much chaos I could have caused? Now ... .. I have to admit, had this gone down differently .... I might have deleted my comment. Might have even given a weak apology to sooth over sore butts.. but, not now.  Yesterday was humorous, today I sip my java and type away here, tomorrow I move on. Friend of mine shared off on social media a pic from a year ago.  Now here's the deal; the real deal.  No matter what patch the guy standing there was wearing ... I'd have made the similar/same joke.  " Schooling the xxxxx? Bahaha"   If that had been an HD patch or HD related group or club,  I'd had referenced it,  in a smart ass way.  If it had been on any various Indian related patches (it was) I'd make the joke.  If it'd been a pic of his mom on the back.. well... I'd made a mommy reference.   That all being said, apparently not everyone appreciates my sense of humor? Back i

In Search of Better Health: Part III

Well, by now I'd hoped to be a lot further along.  Still, the good news is .. I'm a lil' further along! I was just about under 300...   it was right in front of me... then, I ballooned up a couple of pounds and I'm still sitting at that number.  What happened?  My sodium intake was down, so my water weight was down.  When I got my diet 'back on track' my muscles filled up with water like sponges.   Basically, had my hopes up for nothing. Now that all being said, my pants fit better.  Shirts fit better. Leather vests are comfortable.  But those elusive 'smaller waist' size jeans in the closet .. are gathering dust.  But, I'm not frustrated.  My only ... concern .. is I need more options in the foods I'm eating.   You can only eat so many omelettes during the week.  So many burgers ( bun-less).  You get the picture.  We were out at an Italian restaurant last night with family and that one was a bitch.  I love Pasta and it was all around me; but

Snowbirds and Gray Hairs

Back in Early November, the wife and I were discussing our "holiday" plans.  We were headed to Galveston for Thanksgiving, and ... planning on putting up the Christmas tree.  Well, this time last year got pretty cold down in Galveston ( it SNOWed one day!), and ...   with her arthritis issues and all, she mentioned she wanted to be somewhere warmer this year.   The previous year, we'd gone to Mexico over NYE, but we didnt' want to leave our Puggle behind... so ... the search was on.  I've got family down in Ft Myers, FL, but have never visited.  Talked about it numerous times, but never got off my ass and did anything about it.  Well, a quick search on weather validated.. we needed to make it happen.  A search on Google Maps gave me a good overview of the areas, though I was shooting in the dark.  I could have picked up the phone and asked a few questions, but we decided to surprise folks.  And finally, we were considering the possibility ... of purchasing a vacat
