A somewhat overused term...but.... a quick look at these stats puts it all in perspective Few of Accident Reports in Sturgis .... _________ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, Aug. 1, 2011 CONTACT: Terry Woster, Public Information Officer, 605.773.3178 Rally Time: Motorists, Bikers Urged To Share Road Safely PIERRE, S.D. – The arrival of August means the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is at hand, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol is reminding bikers and motorists to use extra care as they share the road. Last year, South Dakota recorded 27 fatal accidents involving motorcycles. More than one-third of those fatal crashes occurred in West River counties during what is generally considered “Rally Time’’ in South Dakota. That’s the roughly two-week period starting the first week of August. “When the rally approaches, we see increased bike traffic mixing with the
