Quarantined in Galveston

Corona Virus ? F ew weeks ago, we made an impromptu trip down here with some friends for an extended weekend.  Had a blast, hit a lot of restaurants, spent a lot of time on the back deck.  Before you knew it, they were headed home and as always we were debating on what to do.  Head home or .. hang around?  As usual, we hung around a few more days with the sun coming out and the Gulf calling our name.  But, we soon had decisions to make. Well before this we were supposed to be heading to Nashville for Lucy's B'day.  After the tornadoes ripped through there, we felt lucky it was still going to happen since our AirBnB hadn't gotten damaged or downtown.  But now, we had a different issue... The Wuhun Flu (Covid-19) was starting to cause shutdowns across the country.    Nashville was still open but shit was starting to close down elsewhere in the country.  I soon got an email from AirBnb saying we could cancel without a loss off funds.  After 24 hours of thinking about

Format Change

..... this should get interesting.  Changed the format of the Blog so it doesn't always try to take you to the most 'popular' previous posts.  One has to go to the side bar now to look at the previous posted that are visited most.    I've always wondered if folks intentionally go to '20 characteristics of a sociopath' intentionally .. or .. it's just the next 'click' in front of them?   We shall see this week...

The Next Week ... we shall see

Got a few friends rolling in the next few days to spend a week with.   Got a family member rolling in.  That's seven.   Keeps us under the 'magic 10'?    Assuming all will be well.  Problem is, deep down ... deeeep down... I've got a nagging feeling.  I mean, the economy is taking a deep shit.  People are showing their true colors (hoarding TP?  Really?).   But, me ... I'm ready.  I prepped for this back in early '16 when I thought Hillary might pull it off.  Really thought had she, this country might find itself in a second civil war.   So today, I double check the stash.   Almost funny to see folks scrambling... most aren't ready.  Never will be.   Part that bothers me is some of the folks close to me ... don't see the possibility of what could come. For now  I'm ready for the 'doomsday' shit, though I don't think that'll happen.  I do think the US .. the World .. as we know it from a financial perspective... has now changed.  We

The world has gone crazy . Pass me a Corona plz

The first clue was the toilet paper memes.  I kept thinking... WTF is the joke?  I hadn't connected the dots.  For a few days, I didn't get it.   Then wondered, who the hell decided they were going to shit themselves and needed a few months worth in the next few days?   Well, sure enough ... folks we're emptying shelves.   We were good to go, and headed to Galveston where we normally keep a larger stock of it and many other things anyways so I wasn't concerned.   We got there late last week.  I stopped in for a few things at Dollar General and picked up a case of water and ... what the hell... another small thing of TP.    The whole back area was stocked up to the ceiling. Here we are on the 16th .... bars and restaurants are being ordered to shut their doors in other states.  It's Spring Break down on the Island which is normally a crazy time of year but not this week...eerily quiet.  Few hours ago headed over to the local DG to grab some Diet 'Dews for the w

Man Boobs

I've become complacent over the years, and realized that ummmmm.. welllll...  I might have a problem.   The last year, it's actually started to bug me.  I mean, hadn't been working out like I used to and my weight back in '18 had hit a new record high.   But here I am something like 14 or 15 months later, still not working out enough, down about 3 doz lbs .. and ..   them damned man boobs weren't  looking good. I've joked about the subject in the past saying " Hey!  I earned them things!  Lots of Beer and Burgers!"   But, lets be honest.... was beginning to bug me.   Kept think "how much weight do I have to lose before these bastards 'go away' ?" Most people don't realize this but Muscle and Fat are two different animals.  Muscle does not turn into Fat, nor can Fat turn into Muscle.   Physiologically impossible.  What messes with most people is they know someone that used to lift a lot, and the person quits lifting and .. gets

The 20/80 Rule : Part III

Image
Been a couple of years since I touched on this 'subject'  Back in Feb of '18 to be exact: The 20/80 Rule : Part II  Over the last thirty days or so, found myself on an intersting topic after doing a Motorcycle trip on a cruise ship.  I cover a lot of that here:   R&R Cruise with Motorcycles in the Caribbean I'm reminded of my 20/80 rule that applies to so many things in life.  Here's my spin on it.  On the web, whether it be social media (ex FB, Twitter, etc), Forums (yes, they still exist!), or sites like TripAdvisor, Yelp and google reviews .. you can give an entity a thumbs up or thumbs down. You can give a numbered rating.  You can give a full blown review if you take the time.  Yet, most people don't. Well, some of us do.  I've done a LOT on Tripadvisor.  I've done a lot of FB.  Hell, whenever I experience something great or .. .shitty .. I tend to put it out there.  However, most don't.  Fact! Let me give an example. ETA Motorcycle C

Great ride day with the Chief today.   Only four of us were planning to ride today, but this morning PC dropped out.. and and hour later, Jimmy dropped out.   Chief pulled up around 1000 hrs and we confirmed we were both still in.  Headed down the road, I quickly realized I should have worn a coat or a hoody; this long sleeve tee wasn't doing a lot for me.  Sixty-three deg and windy!  But, we were on 2 wheels, temps would be rising and we had about 175 miles of two lane roads ahead of us. It'd be a partly sunny 73 deg day by the end of it, but that damned wind! We took the long way, finding lots of twisties on 1563, 275, 799 then 1799.  Eventually we dropped onto Hwy 80, headed East and got it up to about 79mph cruising the next 25 miles or so. We were headed to Big Sandy for grub and it was good as always. I opted for the mud bugs, Chief stuck to a good burger and James and his wife rolled in about an hour later via cage. They were in for mud bugs and shrimp. After grub
