Galveston ... hasta luego baby

Image
Galveston Island  Twenty five years of good times....   starting in the late 90's and as of today (!), sold our second/final home on the island.  Truly gut wrenching decision for me since we love going down there so much.  Hell, just a lil' over a year ago we were considering buying a third (selling the other two to buy it) on the canals nearer the bay side.  A truly beautiful home with a pool and garages that we could have moved to full time.  We made an offer, but wouldn't pay the asking price. When we opted not to do that one, I think it may have set things in motion mentally.  Additionally, we'd been going down to the coast in MS more often to see my nephew and his family for Jeep events.  The more we went there, the more I appreciated it and saw some glaring differences that I couldn't ignore. My neighborhood - Karankawa Beach My neighborhood - Karankawa Beach   Galveston has always been about the ease and simplicity of getting to the Gulf quickly for my family

New Pool : MS Home

Image
About a month or so ago ... I came around to the idea of a pool at the new Vaca' Home in MS, on the Gulf Coast.  At first I was like "hell no!" but it gets hot there as well during the summer months , we have a large back yard, we just sold our second home in Galveston (avail pool funds!) and ....  last trip down the more I looked around, the more pools I saw.  Screw it .. I'm in! This is a change-up for us in contrast to our Greenville, TX pool we put in about 20 yrs ago.   This one has a modern look.  Rick n' Holly just put one in and I hate to admit it ...but.. this one looks really similar. It wasn't intentional but  I do love their pool so maybe that lined up a few brain cells on my part.  On the Pool Company's web site they had a few that caught our eye.. and ...  similar to the Dittel's pool.  So, we changed things up a lil, went 'all in' on a few features and it's begun. I signed up with a down payment last trip to ensure we got o

The Vaccine .... no choice

I've been adamant I wasn't going to get this crap unless ..... I "had" to.  Well, since the company I work for is more than 100 employees and has Federal contracts... the Biden Federal mandate kicks in. Well, opted not to get the Johnson & Johnson version ....   it appears to have a history of blood clots and other BS.  Opted for the Moderna; seemed the lesser of three evils.  Would have been nice to have one jab and be done though.  Hell, went all in .. got the season Flu shot at the same time; what could go wrong?   What pisses me off is I've had COVID.  Probably twice (didn't test the second time).  Probably had the antibodies as I got jabbed today.  But, nobody gives a fuck.  They don't check if you 'need' the vaccine.  Check if you've got 'herd immunity' .  Just 'comply'.  Science?   DC doesn't give a fuk' about SCIENCE. Didn't have to do it.  Could have pulled the plug and retired, but ....... I'm not

Group rides - Positioning

Image
Had a nice ride yesterday with a small group for about 150 miles total myself. Thought we'd get soaked but turned out to be a beautiful day.  Still, got to thinking while in the pack about a few things.  The good thing is everyone rode tight and it was basically almost a perfect ride.  But my position in the pack got me to thinking .... For the last 12 years or so I've found myself leading the groups 95% of the time I ride.  It just happened that way.  In the beginning, I didn't want to .. but the group I was with always asked me to lead so I did. After awhile it was second nature. Over the years I've blogged about this as I've learned all the dos and don't s.  Gotten a little opinionated about it all. Group Riding   Group Ride .. Pet Peeves  Yesterday I started off #3 which hasn't happened for awhile.  Since we weren't in twisties and mostly 'straight' roads, we were able to ride tight the entire time.  Leader took the insid

Mexico - Barcelo' Maya Riviera All Adult

Damned. here we go again!   Fourth trip of the year, but the first time to the new Adults Only (AO) section of this resort, which is nothing short of HUGE with SIX resorts all together, side by side.  The first time we went was around 2008, followed by at least four more trips to this location over the years. Normally to the Palace, once to the Tropical and now to the AO.  Hell, we've already made our Spring trip reservations for an AirBnB Cozumel before heading out to this one... sort of a blur?  Well, after a few days of packing we're headed out mid-week flying into Cancun to meeting with Michael Hansen for his 50th Bday.  His brother, my cousin Michael and his bride and Jesse Davis and his bride, are all headed down. We've all got Premium swim out Jr Suites and it's going to rock. Okay … wrote the above before we left, got back last night … whew .. what a week! In so many ways this one went ultra-smooth. few lil’ bumps along the way but a great trip.    We booked
