It's COLD here in Tejas! Well, was .............

We had some crazy weather here not too long ago ...  less than two weeks ago.  Our home down in MS got 9" of snow and it's something like one block away from a sandy beach on the Gulf of America!   Brrrrr.   Lucy made a joke about going back to Mexico and .. well, you don't joke about that shit with me.  Quick look and I'm like .. lets do it!  I'm scouring for Airbnb's, flights and ... she starts dragging her feet.  Well, at our coldest day here in Texas it was something like 19 deg out there and I was unable to get her to commit when I realized one of our pipes in our outdoor kitchen area had popped a top on the faucet and hot water was spewing water everywhere.  Quickly shut off the water, found the problem, shut off that valve and ...  it's already starting to warm up (well.. out of the freezing numbers).  I'm looking at the temps and realize we've now been through the worst of it, push her buttons on Mexico and ...she's considering it.  Back to the Airbnb search of all options, she's adamant about being near an old spot of ours at the El Cantil complex, I can't find anything so .... I pick up the phone and go old skool; call them.  It's Tuesday, they have an opening on Friday so now it's game on.  I add up our airline points, pull up the app, find some flights on Friday-Thursday, double check on the room and full court press on Lucy. Few hours later, I get an 'ok', all booked, and .... ready!   Damned, can't believe we're doing this again.  But, even though 30s ain't too cold, we're wanting 70s and 80s...   and it's about to happen!

Friday morning, up too early as always, headed to the airport and pretty much all by the book. I'd grabbed some cash and strapped with about $2500 in bills, room is paid for already, flights booked with points.  I'm thinking "F' the budget, let's have some fun!"  After some drinks in the Admirals club, into First Class, then on AA and we're rolling.  I talked a guy into swapping seats so Lucy and I are seated together, now we're smiling.  Two and half hours later breeze through customs, snag a cab and we're headed towards the beach.

This is our 2nd time here at El Cantil Condominiums, so we know what to expect.  Well, sort of. Last time we had a 3 bedroom over the top Penthouse condo, this time it's a 1 Bedroom Penthouse condo.  Turns out to be a night and day difference.  But, in all fairness this trip it's just 2 of us. This is a full blown fully furnished 1 Bedroom with a King and balcony with ocean view.  What more do you need?  I like the bigger balconies but we can make do.  View is awesome.  We're facing the beautiful ocean.  Across the street is the grocery store (literally).  Once we unpack, head across the street for some Prosecco and Vino and Agua.  Within two blocks are 5 restaurants and bars.  It's time to relax and get some grub, enjoy the warmth and view.

The first night the temps are in the 60s and really windy.  Turns out they've had some shit weather that was tied to the shit weather we just left.  But, 60s vs  teens/20s/30s?  I'll take it.  Next morning it's a lil cloudy and we're into the 70s.  The following day creeps up higher and sun peeks out sometimes.  Second half of the trip the temps will hover around 80 and mostly sunshine.  Gulf is calm.  Wind is minimal.  We're completely relaxed.  Every night we find a good meal/place to eat.  Found some live music.  Met with a good friend of ours who popped in from a cruise ship for one day.  The only thing we we didn't do what we wanted was to hit a beach club or two. But our time at the pools and hot tub were great and we met lots of folks down from various parts of the country and some that lived here full time.

My pool time paid off a lil as well.  Cracked the code on some of the best ways to find future bookings vs what I'd been trying.  Our last trip we got lucky via the Airbnb listing and the price.  This time, the phone call saved me and got a discounted price.  But, found other avenues and already verified some great options and pricing.  I've been back less than 24 hours and already scheming for the next go.  Can't help myself. On a positive note, that $2500 I'd brought...  only spent about a third of it... whew!

Few weeks from now we take a CVMA related Cruise and drop off in Cozumel and Progresso.  Few weeks from now, we'll be back on that Island and doing a Pub Crawl with over a dozen of us.  Now that ... should prove interesting?
