We've done several trips to Secrets Maroma Beach over the last five or so years and it's one of our favorites. Their sister resort Secrets Akumal is supposed to be very similar with one main difference; sea turtles. Our close friend Darla is a turtle lover and was determined to get over there which they did last year and she and Steve loved it. They'd asked us to go in the future, so we were in! Problem is, she's dealing with an upcoming surgery and they couldn't join us this time around. So, it's just the two of us. We timed it with our Anniversary and we're psyched! Damned thing was expensive but worth every dollar.
Turns out, it's a notch closer to drive if you fly into Tulum vs Cancun so I'd booked us front row seats on AA for our week getaway and arranged for a private car to/from the Resort. The Tulum airport is new and beautiful; Nice lil' surprise! Soon, we've found our driver and we're headed out. Fifty minutes later we're pulling up to the resort and headed to the Preferred Club to check in. I've booked us a Beach Front Preferred King Suite so we end up in building 2, third floor (2301) Buidling 1 across from the pools is the other beach front. North side buildings are odd numbered, South side even numbered. We're in a corner not quite 100% facing the ocean as I'd expected. I'm somewhat irked at first, but soon realize I've got nothing to complain about. We can see all the main pools, and a large part of the ocean / beach. Hell, we've got the best of both worlds? Sitll .... "Beach Front?" .. hmmmm. But, I'd book it all over again.

Our awesome daily view |
Sure enough, this resort looks really familar to Maroma Beach overall, but slight differences. It's much more tropical / jungle like in the center of the resort. Beaches aren't quite as nice, but still, beautiful. The folks working here are awesome in every way. The restaraunts and food top notch. Top Shelf liquor in every bar. Only two of the restaraunts require reservations (Hibachi and Greek) but none have any upcharges. Over near the fitness center and lobby is the Theater where they had some great shows. In the center pool area they also put on some great shows and over by the quiet pool one night they had an awesome Mayan food bazar of sorts for dinner with local vendors setup everywhere; awesome.
Daily we walked the entire resort getting our steps/exercise in. Several times, hit the fitness center to throw around some weights. Then back to the room for breakfast via room service or hit one of the nice restruantes for some great options. Hell, even the market cafe which is buffet style had an increbile breakfast!
Only hit the beach for one day of lounging. First day we hit the main pool which most call the 'loud pool' since volleyball, bingo, anything and everything, happens there. The pool next to it was much calmer and had great service for drinks and lunch. The third pool, just as large towards the back / lobby, was the quiet pool. Meant to get back there once or twice... but.. never made it. Ran out of times/days! Daily, every morning they had a mimosa cart work the 'loud' main pool. An ice cream cart worked both pools and beach around lunch time. By the main pool from 12-2 they had a outside grill serving up various options daily. Awesomeness!
As always, last day is upon us and we do NOT want to leave .. sigh. But, we're already scheming for our return trip and this time , via the UVC program. Looking at the costs now are a small compared to the last trip. In the long run, the new options will save us a ton of change (though it cost a lot of change up front). Now, we need to do some REAL traveling in the future! This week, we'll be booking Akumal for a trip a couple months from now.... we'll see if the UVC program is what they promise it to be.
