REVIEW: C&M Motorcycle Tours Cancun/Cozumel Mexico
https://www.candmmotorcycletours.com/
Lets jump right to the meat of this review. Did we have a great time? HELL YES. Would we do it again. HELL YES (and plan to). Wrote about my personal experience here. <click here>. On a scale of 1-5, rating? Hmmmmm... I sooooooo badly want to say FIVE! But, I want to be 100% transparent and honest. I'm going to give it a 4.9. Why? Well, read the review!
I became aware of this several months ago via Social Media on Adam Sandavols' FB Page. He's a motorcycle enthusisaist with a huge following on FB, YouTube, etc. Great Guy, supporting my fellow Military Brothers and Sisters over the years, via charities, etc. Didnt' really know him before the ride, but as one finds out, you get to know all your fellow riders during this incredible week of riding.
Upon return, so many people ask "How was the riding??" Well, I've got to tell you .... it's not about the Ride. Yes, you'll be on nice full size Harley Davidsons (ex. Roadking, Streetglide, Heritiage, Ultras). Yes, over the week upwards of 750 miles or so. Yes, into the interior of the Yucatan and experince places and things one may never have or will again. And that last part, is what I'm talking about. The first day of the ride, we found ourselves on an excucrsion down in the caverns of Rio Secroto; beautiful and stunning. The next day of riding we found ourselves at a Cenotes; beautiful and stunning. We found ourselves on a beach in Progresso catching rays and kicking back in the sand on a beautiful beach. Next day in Rio Lagartos, on boats surrounded by Flamingos, Eagles soaring about and a few crocidiles among us (literally!). Every night, we go from Hotel to Hotel, some are All Inclusives, some are beautiful in town squares. All but one had swimming pools. Great Mexican food. Mayan food. Yucatan' food. Lots of miles through a few jungle areas. To be honest, I hadn't wrapped my head around it. I bought in looking forward to riding with a group of like minded folks on HDs, with experts leading us around Mexico where I hadn't been before, ensuring we were all in a safe environment. I didn't realize the overall breadth of great times and moments we were about to share.
Costs: Easy to figure out on the main web site (I also cover it below). Best part to me is they don't overcharge / gouge, for a second person (passenger) to come along. The cost for the passenger covers a few meals double occupancy at the hotels. About $5,000 for one person, another $500 or so for the second person. Grab some cheap airfare R/T to Cancun, and bring a few hundred extra bux for some great Mexican food and cold Cervezas. Great Value in my opinion. Also, they have a 10-month, 0% interest payment plan!
So yes ... my wife and I had an incredible time! So why only 4.9 vs 5.0? Because ... nothing is ever perfect. But .. this almost was. Now what I'm about to bring up is completely trivial. But, hey ..... just being me.
- When we got to Progresso, there was a little confusion when we were ready to leave. Has to do with the folks that manage the tables/chairs/Palapas. I just felt like we could have had more info on costs. Now, the folks running the ride are aware and have a solution for the next trip .. but... was a lil bump in the road.
- Second thing and I'm giving you all the info here for your use when you go. Hell, all the info was on the website and I could have printed it. But, I'd like to see them print an intinerary out and hand it to folks as a reminder of ... Day to Day , times, activities and costs. We were all in the moment, and most didn't remember what was paid for , what was included, which meal, etc. Now, it's for the most part obvious... Curt every aftertnoon reminded us.. but.. I wasn't the only one 'forgetful'. Would have been cool to have a paper to look at?
- Finally ... I believe folks should have a concept of what they are getting themselves into. Here's my point .. When we got to Rio Secreto ... we didn't realize the level of effort that is needed. My wife has really bad RA and ankle issues. I was really worried about her during the tour. Funny part is .. she was fine, but I had a couple of issues due to my wet suit being too tight (my story and I'm sticking to it). Had to take it off my upper body to function (breath!).
- Point being, I ride with a lot of folks that might have issues with these excursions. Some might not be able to walk the entire area of the ruins (was big!). Yes, I'm being picky .. but ... we are in our 60s. One of our guys just turned 76 (and he rocked the excursions!). But, I know people younger that ... might have issues. Am I being overly picky? Yep ..... so, press on since 99% of the people reading this will be snickering and thinking ... so don't go!
Enough of that. Below, I've got a couple of pages where I summarized everything. Hell, you may want to print some of it for your use when you go. Because trust me, you WANT TO GO.
Lessons Learned:
- Should have brought more pesos vs dollars. As you get further into the Yucatan, Pesos and Spanish are the norm... less english and less USD. But, we had 2-3 folks that work with the tour company fluent in Spanish/Enlglish. No worries
- Should have brought some water shoes for the Cave Excursion. They give you a pair, but ... cheap compared to a simple nice cheap pair from Amazon. One of our guys brought his own; brilliant
- Should have bought a cheap plastic cup/bottle holder to clamp on the handlebars. You see these at rallys all the time for like $12 or so.
- And finally, have some funds to tip the Tour Guide folks (2-3 of them) on the last day. I barely had enough; for some reason I forgot to allocate the funds for that but it worked out. How much Well... $200 or $250 USD per guy seemed to be the norm talking to folks in my group.
Check them out!!!! Yes .. they are 5 Star!
