VROC - Veterans Resource & Outreach Center

One of my CVMA Brothers heads up a local 501C3, the Veteran's Outpost.   Few days ago, he reached out to our CVMA Chapter, asking for some financial help on a current project.  Wasn't a huge dollar amount, Lucy asked me what I thought and we both quickly decided "we're in!".   We quickly agreed to help with the last bit of costs to get a car to a deserving Vet in need, as well as fill up the tank with fuel for him.

Maestro asked us if we were available to come out and meet the recipient personally.  The Veterans Resource & Outreach Center is located in Rowlette so we agreed and headed out that way yesterday.  To be honest, I had no idea what we'd just agreed to help with, except that they were in the final stretch and had come up short.

Well, we rolled into the VROC and David Thompson was there ahead of us.  We then got to meet some key players of the VROC and get the tour.  Awesome newer facility there to help Vets in the area that are in need.   Pretty cool how they have the interior setup in areas, that tie to the military. Each branch of the military has it's own conference room.  Not sure how the Army got the biggest and the USAF was in the back corner, but I let it slide (humor).  They have  a program for backpacks for homeless Vets that touched my heart ( they had dozens of the backpacks there that folks come in for, to distribute).   Definitely a charity that has my attention.

Today a Vet that has been in need was on his way to get a 'new' car to help him.   He's been out of the Army for several years, returning to Texas recently from Colorado where he was last stationed.   He's struggled and found the VROC.   Over and beyond his expectations, a chain of events were in motion that a car was donated, a shop volunteered to go  through it to make sure it was good to go  (was in great condition to start with), and some loose ends of finances (Inspection, plates, fuel) needed to be taken care of.  This is where Lucy and I came into the picture, after all the hard work had been done.

Soon, Army SPC/CPL E4 Christopher Bookman who served honorably in Iraq & Afghanistan rolled in on a bus and we had the privilege of meeting him.  He appeared to be shook to the core this was all happening.  To say he was humble, is an understatement.  Lucy and I found ourselves truly blessed to be part of this.  When the timing was right we slid him an additional Gift card to help with fuel, etc in the future.  Lot of handshakes and hugs between all there where shared.   And for the charities involved, a few pics to help with future projects and funding.

The hardest thing for me, especially around this time of year .. .. is finding the people out there that truly need our help.  When we do, we want to help as much as possible.  When that person is a Veteran, that much more after they've served this Great Nation and put their Live(s) on the line.   The hard part is finding those that truly need the help.   Yesterday was one of those days.   Thank You to the VROC and Veterans Outpost, for taking care of Chris in this time of need.

God Bless
