Alternative Week.......
This damned thing has taken on a life of it's own. It started out as a few of us deciding to do a week of riding, instead of attending a dealer event in there in the Twin Cities, as I have the previous five years. In our situation, people had time off, plans had been made, but we'd decided not to attend due to personal reasons. Game on! But, then the dealer claimed we were part of another bike week event, posting it out there which created a hoopla' with folks reaching out to us asking about it. My answer was "what other bike week?" Told them I hoped to get a chance to see them in August and pressed on. However, after an event last month in Colorado, over some cold ones, we decided to take it to the next level from the original concept; original concept being just a few guys riding Indians!
The local Iron Indian Riders Association (IIRA) Chapter is going to put together a week of rides, an overnight trip, some great dinners; basically an old school rally of sorts. A Regional IIRA rally, for no better description. But, it's not 'official'. Doesn't cost anyone anything more than the fuel in their bike. Have to admit, I've gotten pretty psyched about it.
Hanging with a dozen or two folks throughout the week, doing it the way it should be done. Additionally, a lot of other folks will be rolling in for the original event we pushed back from; all good since that's 1/2 the reason I'm headed up there. To see old friends, meet some new ones, throw back a few cold ones, ride with them, and visit with them.
Saw the other day where Bison Thunder Motorcycle has a demo truck rolling in now, that Fri-Sun.
PERFECT timing for the trip up. They are up on the NW corner of the cities, outside the concrete highway mess. I haven't been there before, but I've heard nothing but good about them. Lot of customer and employees have migrated that direction. I'm told the owner is a no BS guy, no drama ... just ... a 'good guy.' .. ....period.
Hell, my guess is a lot of folks that are rolling in for the other event will now meander that direction to check out the dealership, ride the bikes and ... hang out for awhile. It has nothing to do with our events, but the local IIRA chapter has been welcomed by them overall, so I know we plan on spending some time up with them. Overall, what was originally supposed to be a just a few of us, looks to be a notch larger. Never the intent, but what the hell. And when the smoke clears, its just a few of us on our bikes and we stretch out some miles throughout the region, that's fine too. That was the original intent.
Now, if my brother up there will just get my shirt size right. Apparently, he's found the 'perfect' shirt for us and having R&R MC emblazoned it it. Another thing, that has taken on a life it's own. Got to see the humor in it......
