Iron Indian Riders Annual Reunion 2019

For the past three years, we've ventured up to Colorado for our "Nationals" event.  First 2 were just north of Durango at the Iron Horse Inn.  Last year's was 25 miles further north at the Purgatory resort.  We'd all talked about the location changing every few years, so this time it was put up to a vote.

Three locations were put up for vote.   Myself and others pushed for one of those options to be the Hill Country here in Texas.   Voting has been going on internally within the IIRA Forum and closed last night.

Lets just say I have a smile on my face.  As voting progressed, it became obvious to me that Texas was a major player/option for next year.  Preliminary checking though brought up an 'oh shit ' moment.   It's easy to just go grab a shit hole motel , get a $50-$75 rate, and say .. 'there you go!'.. but...  there is more to it than that.

Location, location, location first of all.  Then, a shit load of rooms need to be blocked.  Negotiate a lower rate for the blocked rooms.  And finally, the location chosen; you have to FEEL it.  We want some quality areas to congregate.  Areas to cook out.  Park the bikes.  Keep the 'civilians' free of our antics.   Dates became an issue.  We had to slide to the right on the dates to lock in with available rooms. Sliding to the 'left' wasn't an option due to school in session ( we've got a fair share of teachers in the mix ).

After a search through 3 different towns we've finally settled on one.  Contract is in hand.  Voting is completed.  Once we sign it, the reservation process begins!    Now, I guarantee everyone won't be happy.  I'm sure someone has a budget in mind and this will be theoretically a couple dollars over that number.  I'm sure someone wants to be out in the sticks away from the city, but there is nowhere avail with the quantity of rooms at the right cost threshold for the group.  I'm sure some will say .. "where the fuck is the Hill Country?" .   Well, right in the Heart of Texas with some of our best riding; that's where.

Good news is .. for now, the 'hard work' is done.  David Jones, VP of the Tunup Issuba chapter out of Houston, led the charge on the final details.  All 4 chapters in the area (Quanah, Fandango, Tunup Issuba and South Winds ) all had a say in the matter.

So, over the next few days info will begin to populate the IIRA Forum with details of the event.  Location, times, links for reservations.  For now ... I just get to do this teaser Blog.

Put this together a few months back as a teaser
