To Mask or Not to Mask

Brother Dick and his bride Holly are staying with us for a few weeks, we're headed out west and they've offered to watch Peanut... score!

I almost titled this "Weekend in Cali", but ...  I can't get over the mask issue. This is my second time flying during the Wuhan Virus BS, and dealing with the mask in airports and on the planes.   Basically, from the time you enter the airport to the time you exit the destination airport, they want that mask on you to include while in the air.  Now, you have to remove it to eat and drink, but apparently between bites they want it back on.  Sorry; nope.  As soon as I sat down in the terminal or the plane, I was taking mine off until 'reminded' to put it back on ... then .. repeat as necessary.  But what really got me was what I saw in California once on the ground.

 

 

This trip was to visit our daughter in SoCal for her birthday.  We booked a Marriott property as always and she was our chauffeur for the extended weekend.  Once checked in, I began to really notice what was going on here, different from Texas. The weather was excellent, around upper 70s to mid 80s.  Sunshine as always was abundant.  So, quite a few folks were out walking about.  Riding bikes, skateboards, you name it.  Jogging up and down the streets on the sidewalks.  All with masks.  Well, not everyone .. but over 90% of them.   WTF?  All day long, you'd see a single person or a couple ...  no one near them for a 100' ... with their masks on.  We went to a high end outdoor mall near the ocean to do a lil shopping.  While the ladies were lined up waiting to get in the store (6' distancing, only so many in the stores simultaneously) I was in the center area relaxing and people watching, without a mask on; we were outdoors.  Problem is ... of the several dozen others around me relaxing , only 1 or 2 others.. .. were mask-less.  Again, over 90% of the folks .... masks .. .outside.  WTF?   Now, don't get me wrong .. .to each their own.  I get it indoors.  I get it in line near others.  I get it...  if someone is really susceptible to this virus... but... when does common sense come into play?  I'm guessing half these bozos are having sex with the masks on   ..... js

Back to the trip ..... the purpose of the trip.  We decided a few months ago to head that way for our daughter's birthday.  Would have liked to have done a Mexico trip or Palm Springs trip with her, but this time of year is a busy one for her, so we locked down a nice hotel with points a couple miles down the road from her home, booked a flight and we were off.  This trip would be awesome in its own way, simply because we got to spend a lot of quality time with her.  Late mornings, we'd connect up usually with her pulling up in her Jeep, we'd pile in and off we go.  Weather rocked, we hit some good restaurants, enjoyed the views of the beach .. .. but mostly, just spent time with our baby girl.  Each night we all cozied up for a good movie, then called it a night .. next day .. repeat.   Problem was sooner or later, you've got to get back to reality. So after three days in SoCal, we headed back to LAX to ...  mask up.

Now .. time to plan a trip to Cozumel for the family to join in, after we had to cancel the APR 2020 trip.  Just need my daughter to figure out her schedule and dog sitters.. then... .Ariba!  Off we go south of the border.
