Facebook .. sorta' like the ol days

Well, back then it didn't have ads and sponsored posts and all the BS .. but .. sorta like it.

Last week I trimmed off 25% of the folks on my 'friends' list.  That got me down to a manageable group of folks that I "actually know!" ... or 'will know' soon enough.  It's about the third time I've done it over the years.   Hoping this time... I add folks sparingly.

The last week .. yep, you read that right .. the last WEEK I've spent unliking and unfollowing hundreds and hundreds of Pages on FB.   My newsfeed has become almost unusable.   I started off doing it just to the crazy election stuff that's persisted.  But as I disconnected from many of them, more I hadn't seen in awhile popped in.   This would become the crazy trend.   Pages I hadn't seen in years start popping up.   FB's algorithms are screwed up badly.   It became obvious to me that if folks don't to get in the top of the queue, they are in the bottom of it.  Now when I say a week, I don't mean literally .. a week. But this has consumed hours and hours of my time.   But, it's been worth it!

Now, 98% of my newsfeed is pertinent!   I now see my friends posts/shares that I follow.  I see a few pages out there that I've retained.   After about 30 seconds, I've pretty much seen everything.  Done.   Back to business.  Well, almost.   About every tenth post, another stray page I haven't seen in upwards of a decade pops out and I usually 'unlike it' and 'unfollow it' .  It's never ending!  But, what a diff!

Unfortunately, I now notice how many posts / pages are 'sponsored'; FB's source of funding.  A LOT of them.   I haven't come up with a solution to get around all that yet....  yet .   Sort of makes one miss the old days of FB... which it was all about .. simplicity
